Community Works
The Christ Mural was created in the small rural community of Lumberton, NM at the St. Francis Catholic School during the winter of 2008.
Undertaken as collaboration between the 50 students of the school and the artists at Belvedere, the project was fun, educational and fulfilling to all who worked on it.
The first step in creating the mural was to meet with the administrators and teaching staff at the school to discuss the process and develop a theme for the mural. In order to involve the students as fully in the process as possible, Susan met with all the students in the gymnasium where she explained her concept and displayed images of similar projects that students had completed in other schools around the country. She also showed the students images of her own artwork and explained about how she would help the students to create a work of art for their school that they would be proud of for years to come.
After the meeting in the gymnasium, the teachers met with the students and worked together to develop a theme for the mural. Once the theme was decided upon, the students were asked to create drawings that depicted some aspect of the theme...
